British officers inspect a group of American sailors for impressment into the British navy. The practice angered Americans and has been cited as one cause of the War of 1812.
Before Washington D.C. was established as the nation's capital, the President of the United States resided in ts Philadelphia House located at Sixth and Market Streets. President George Washington lived there from 1790-1797, and President John Adams lived there from 1797 until he moved into the unfinished White House in 1800.
